In some circumstances the use of a file drawer for file storage is preferred. File drawers use more than double the floor space of lateral cabinets, but if they already exist and reorganisation will deliver a more user friendly filing system then using our special file folders that allow for identification rather than a suspension pocket and a standard manila file offers savings of space and cost.
The term lateral file drawer is an unfortunate use of words. At 900 wide the "lateral file drawer" holds no more media than 2 x 4 drawer file cabinets side by side and requires an investment of roughly the same amount as a true lateral file cabinet (where the files are stored on a shelf). By comparison the shelf storage cabinet accommodates more media than a drawer cabinet with suspension pockets.
Where drawer filing cabinets already exist and a more efficient and user friendly method of filing is required, see the drawer filing accessories page.
